‘Mr. Liar’ by Tende Kasha – Catchy Reggae With Origins in Angola, Portugal, and Australia

Artist: Tende Kasha Single: Mr. Liar Genre: Reggae, Roots, Best New Music Release Date: January 20th, 2024

There’s something about candid, straightforward honesty in lyrics that can cut deeper than overly abstract metaphors and symoblism and “what did they mean by that?” ‘Mr. Liar’ is a track that isn’t trying to dress anything up. The listener knows exactly what the singer is going through – it hits.

The most interesting part about this track, though, is the artist behind it. Check out Tende Kasha’s biography:

Born in Luanda, Angola, Tende Kasha’s early years were marked by the harsh realities of war in the working-class neighborhood of Bairro Popular. At the tender age of 10, he was sent to Portugal by his parents to escape the turmoil and uncertainty of his homeland. Despite his challenges, Tende Kasha found solace and passion in music from a young age. With a natural inclination towards singing, he sought refuge in the melodies that filled the airwaves, igniting a lifelong love affair with music.

Upon relocating to London in 1989, Tende Kasha immersed himself in the vibrant music scene despite battling vocal cord spasms that threatened to silence his voice. Undeterred, he pursued his passion for percussion and music, finding kindred spirits with whom to collaborate.

Parallel to his musical pursuits, Tende Kasha’s thirst for knowledge led him to the Department of Anthropology at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). In 2000, he graduated with honors in Development studies and Geography from the same institution.

In 2000, Tende Kasha made yet another significant move to Australia, where he established his own entertainment business, Vital Pulse. Despite facing financial setbacks and health challenges, including vocal spasms and the closure of a business venture, Tende Kasha remained undeterred in his pursuit of musical excellence.

Fluent in English, Portuguese, French, and Spanish, his diverse linguistic skills opened doors to new opportunities and connections in his artistic endeavors. Determined to overcome his health struggles and reaffirm his commitment to music, Tende Kasha adopted the name “TendeKasha De Feat” alongside his original artistic name. His debut album, “INNER TUNE,” recorded in Melbourne, Australia, was a testament to his resilience and determination to find his inner rhythm amidst adversity. Drawing inspiration from his experiences as a former Youth Development Specialist and support worker, Tende Kasha’s music resonates with authenticity and depth. It offers a voice to the voiceless and sheds light on the struggles and triumphs of disadvantaged youth.

And on top of that, it’s catchy as hell.

E.W. Harris may have started this project as a joke—some barroom dare to make an acoustic folk record about robots—but what he’s ended up with is one of the most complete and imaginative indie folk releases in recent memory.

“Get Your Coat” finds Goddamn Wolves easing off the distortion pedal without losing any of their character. The Raleigh-based trio, best known for their alt-rock grit and boy-girl vocal interplay, lean into something more reflective this time: a jangly, country-tinged tune that’s equal parts new direction and old memory.
