The Beautiful Game – One Dan Band: Garage-Sent, Nostalgic Indie Vibes

Artist: One Dan Band Single: The Beautiful Game Genre: Garage Rock, Indie Rock, Slacker Rock Release Date: May 31st, 2024

One Dan Band’s latest single, “The Beautiful Game,” embodies the raw energy and authenticity that only a DIY approach can deliver. Inspired by a sports documentary, presumably about soccer (football, for our metric friends) the track is perfect for a long drive with the windows down. Recorded mostly on an iPhone, the lo-fi production doesn’t hold this song back, it gives it a charming, nostalgic edge. The lowest quality audio tech of today sounds like the best quality of yesterday.

Formed in 2024 in the bustling Chicago music scene, the band is made up of Dan Munck on guitar and vocals, Manny Munoz on bass, and Brian McCreadie on drums. Together, they pull from a wide array of influences, including The Replacements, The Beatles, Alvvays, and Sonic Youth, crafting a sound that feels oh-so familiar yet fresh.

“The Beautiful Game” shines with effortless good vibes. It’s a tight, cool, and laid-back indie rock anthem with great vocals. The garage band feel of the recording makes it easy to imagine the trio jamming out in a small rehearsal studio – maybe a real garage – just wanting to capture the moment and throw it up on the internet for the world to hear. The Beatles comparisons are apt, but there’s a distinct Dr. Dog, maybe Bob Dylan vibe that underpins the track, giving it an extra layer of nostalgia.

Dan Munck’s exclamation, “Dude! That actually sounds pretty good!!” sums up the vibe of the song perfectly—there’s a sense of surprise and joy that comes through in every chord and lyric. “The Beautiful Game” is straightforward indie rock at its best, and if this track is any indication, One Dan Band is just getting started.

“RIDIN” – MARTO Review
artwork (2)

MARTO is making a statement. Born in Thika, Kenya, and now rooted in Seattle, he’s an artist caught between two worlds, pulling from both as he carves out his own lane. His latest track, “LEFT MY PHONE”, feels like a late-night haze—blurring the lines between afro-infused rhythms and the moody, atmospheric sound of modern hip-hop.

While the album’s production and performances are nothing short of incredible, his album received a significant boost in popularity after a viral appearance on Jimmy Kimmel.
