"Dear Friend" - Tessa Lee: A Heartfelt Ode to Companionship and Nostalgia

Artist: Tessa Lee Single: Dear Friend Genre: Americana, Folk Rock, Rock Pop Release Date: June 11th, 2024

Following the release of her previous single, "Big Slow Beating Heart" in March 2024, independent singer/songwriter Tessa Lee brings us "Dear Friend," the third single from her upcoming full-length album, ‘Mountains,’ due out in September 2024.

"Dear Friend" was written during the lockdown of autumn 2020, a period of isolation felt globally. The song captures the essence of maintaining connections with loved ones during challenging times, serving as a poignant reminder of the importance of supporting one another.

Producer Jed Pickett's Hammond organ sets the tone from the outset of this classically styled down-home rock ballad. The track is further enriched by Fintan McCullough’s gnarly slide guitar, which crackles and weaves through the mix, reminiscent of Derek Trucks at his smoothest. The solid yet relaxed rhythm section, featuring Ian Howard on drums and Isaac Gee on bass, exudes a charm reminiscent of The Band and early Susan Tedeschi.

Recorded at Rolling on the River Studios in Hobart’s Huon Valley and mastered by Colin Leadbetter of Leadbetter Productions, "Dear Friend" showcases the seamless collaboration between Tessa Lee and "The Cold Weather Band."

Tessa Lee, a NW Tasmanian singer/songwriter, has developed a rare melodic style and freedom in her writing. Her warm, exuberant indie pop mingles with jazz and blues roots, tied together by her insightful and masterful lyrics. Known for her soulful grooves, divine vocals, and epic storytelling, Lee also incorporates a sprinkling of jazz flute, honed during her studies at Western Australia’s Academy of Performing Arts.

The music video for "Dear Friend" was shot by Christopher Jolly and filmed near Lee’s house in NW Tasmania. The video captures the simple act of walking in nature with her dog, symbolizing the companionship and loyalty of a faithful pet - the dearest of friends.

"Dear Friend" feels like a warm hug, radiating comfort and familiarity. The beautiful guitar work and heartfelt lyrics create a song that resonates deeply, reminiscent of Gillian Welch. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to sit back, relax, and enjoy the simple moments in life.

Tessa Lee’s "Dear Friend" is a testament to the enduring power of friendship and the warmth of shared memories. With its rich production and heartfelt message, it’s a song that will undoubtedly strike a chord with listeners.
