“Now We’re Successful” – The Muster Point Project: Tongue In Cheek New-Americana

Artist: The Muster Project Single: Now We’re Successful Genre: Alt Rock Pop, New Americana, Easy Listening Release Date: July 17th, 2024

The Muster Point Project (TMPP) has once again proven their knack for creating engaging and relatable music with their latest single, “Now We’re Successful.” This Canadian indie band, led by the multi-talented Kevin Franco, delivers a track that is as fun and rhythmically captivating as it is lyrically clever. With Latin percussion, catchy hooks, and a touch of heartfelt sarcasm, “Now We’re Successful” is a delightful addition to the New Americana genre.

From the opening moments of the track, which is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face, the song’s infectious energy is evident. The rhythm and sound are undeniably fun, inviting listeners to dance or, at the very least, tap their feet along to the beat. The inclusion of Latin percussion and rhythm sets the song apart, driving it forward with an irresistible momentum.

The narrative of “Now We’re Successful” centers on reconnecting with a long-lost work colleague, with Franco’s lyrics exaggerating the successes of both parties. The protagonist nostalgically reminisces about the past while boasting about their present-day achievements, despite the truth being somewhat stretched. Lines like “now we’re successful and we pull in the bank” followed by “aren’t we clever?” capture this playful exaggeration, while the chorus asserts a catchy, new-age declaration, “khakis forever!”

Franco’s storytelling is enhanced by the talented musicians who contribute to the track. Sterling Laws, known for his work with Liz Phair, Lo Moon, War on Drugs, and Olivia Rodrigo, lays down a solid drum foundation, while Compalobo’s trumpet playing adds a vibrant layer to the song. Franco himself showcases his versatility, covering guitars, mandolin, djembe, percussion, bass, and vocals, making the track a true testament to his musical prowess. The song was expertly produced by Darryll McFadyen, whose experience with Belle & Sebastian, Simple Minds, and Trevor Horn shines through in the polished and well-balanced production.

The inspiration for “Now We’re Successful” came from a real-life experience of Franco’s, when a former colleague reached out to him on LinkedIn. This encounter sparked his imagination, leading him to ponder how such a reconnection might unfold. The result is a song that blends humor and introspection, highlighting the often absurd nature of social posturing and the passage of time.

“Now We’re Successful” will be featured on TMPP’s upcoming album, “It Was Here He Received His Only Formal Education,” set to release in November. This single offers a tantalizing glimpse into what promises to be an album filled with wit, charm, and relatable storytelling.

“Now We’re Successful” by The Muster Point Project is a standout track that combines infectious rhythms, clever lyrics, and top-notch musicianship. It’s a song that not only entertains but also invites listeners to reflect on their own journeys and the sometimes humorous nature of reconnecting with the past. Whether you’re a fan of New Americana or simply appreciate well-crafted music with a cool dad rock vibe, this single is sure to leave you eagerly anticipating the full album.
